Research Institute “Mathematical Modeling and Intelligent Control Systems” (RI MMICS) carries out fundamental and applied research in the field of mathematic modeling and control over compound physical entities, processes and phenomena.

Areas of scientific activity:
  • Mathematic modeling in mechanics and physics, including the problems of:
    • High-frequency oscillations in engineering systems, passive and active vibroprotection, noise blanking.
    • Structural strength and failure under the cyclic loading.
    • Transmission of waves and hydroelasticity.
    • Stability of the processes in low- and high-temperature plasma.
    • Seismic stability, mechanics of soil and rock, drilling mechanics.
  • Hydrodynamic stability of the long-length objects.
  • Engineering analysis and system design based on the listed areas for the wide range of industrial applications.
  • Experimental research and identifi cation of the model parameters upon the listed areas.
  • Development activity.
  • Development of equipment for the industrial applications.

Scientific approaches:
  • Mathematic modeling and identifi cation.
  • Carrying out laboratory and full-scale experiments.
  • Solving the wide range of initial and boundary value problems of mathematical physics, including the interdisciplinary problems.
  • Application of the modern microprocessor program complexes (ANSYS FLUENT and ANSYS CFX level) and development of the Center’s own software.
Applied developments and projects:
The final products are solutions for diverse problems of engineering analysis and design (applied developments), control algorithms, software for the engineering calculations, pilot equipment models.

Typical applied projects:
  • Development of techniques for the ventilation and heat calculations of electric machines and software for the Public Corporation “Production Association “Leningrad Electromechanical Plant“.
  • Dynamics simulation and development of methods for the submarine acoustic probes motion control for the Federal State Unitary Scientifi c&Production Enterprise “Sevmorgeo“.
  • Foliation cause analysis for the special rolled materials for the Public Corporation “High-Technology Research Institute of Non-Organic Materials named after A.A.Bochvara“.
  • Design, calculations and development of the pilot equipment models for the wheeled friction pairs plasma treatment (for the Public Corporation “The Russian Railways”).
Activity within the government and fundamental research programs:
  • Agreements with the Sandia National Laboratories of the USA on development of the phonon scattering models and the models of hydrogen embrittlement in the continuous medium.
  • Programs of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Russian Foundation for Basic Research on simulation of the seismic soil stability and seismic waves transmission in rocks.
Center’s equipment:
Center’s equipment comprises analytical equipment for measuring the concentration of the minor gas components in metals, equipment for mechanical tests and system identifi cation, vacuum equipment, computers and software for the problems of computational mechanics and physics.
