Laboratory of Computational Hydroacoustics and Turbulence

Areas of scientifi c activity:
  • Turbulence simulation
Development of new tecniques and approaches to turbulence simulation within RANS, LES, DNS è RANSLES hybrids.
  • Computational hydroaerodynamics
Design of eff ective (precise and economy) numerical algorithms for solving the problems of computational hydroaerodynamics and acoustics.
  • Computational aeroacoustics
Development of the noise computing methods based on the fundamental principles of aerodynamics and aeroacoustics.

Laboratory's applied research:
  • Vortex flows
Planes' aerodynamic trace calculation.
  • Flight safety and comfort
Conditioning systems design and internal plane's noise calculation.
  • Convective heat transfer
Buildings' heating and ventilation systems design
Electronic equipment cooling calculation.
  • Internal and external aerodynamics
Calculation and analysis of complex turbulent fl ows, their stability and form optimization for reducing resistance etc.
  • Aroacoustics
Based on the LES prognosis of noise made by the exhaust jets upon the fl ow past the diverse transport vehicles (airplanes, trains, motor cars).

Laboratory’s main partners:
  • Rocket and Space Corporation “Energia” named after S.P.Korolev (Russia);

Laboratory's scientific achievements

Laboratory made considerable contribution to solving the fundamental problems of computational hydroaerodynamics, aeroacoustics and turbulence simulation:

  • Detached vortex simulation method – 1997-2008 yy.
Shifted the development vector in the fi eld of turbulence simulation to the approaches based on combined application of Reynolds equation and LES.
  • General method for the turbulent jets noise calculation based on the fundamental principles – 2001-2008 yy.
The first nonobservational CFD/CAA computing system with an accuracy of 2-3dB.
  • New approaches to the turbulent fl ows global stability analysis – 2002-2007 yy.
The new global stability analysis methodology for solving the Reynolds equations.
