Research Institute of Materials and Technologies (RI MT) was established in 2007 in accordance with the plan of strategic development of the University for solving complex scientific and engineering tasks through interdisciplinary polytechnic approach.

Department of Coating Technologies and Surface Engineering

Areas of scientific activity:

  • investigation of physical and chemical laws of chemical vapor deposition of diverse inorganic thin films;
  • research and development of plasma-chemical processes for dielectric films production in the remote plasma apparatus;
  • research and development of plasma-chemical processes for nanoparticles synthesis and surface treatment, based on applying low-temperature plasma produced by electric discharges in gases under atmospheric pressure;
  • construction design and industrial model production of equipment for growing the oriented carbon nanotubes;
  • research and development of chemical vapor deposition processes of metal catalytic films on the irregular shape articles and porous carriers;
  • engineering and production of microsystem equipment articles;
  • research of fundamental laws of thin films nucleation on diverse substrate surfaces by the instrumentality of the nanotechnological complex “Nanofab 25”.

Scientific research and experiment carried out:

  • development of technologies for plasma-chemical low-temperature deposition under atmospheric pressure;
  • development of technological bases for nanocomposite materials production by means of chemical gas-phase deposition;
  • development of technologies for cleaning the probes of atomic-force microscopes;
  • development of technologies for surface modification of the probes of atomic-force microscopes for improving their consumer properties.

Main scientific developments:

  • a series of sources of low-temperature plasma under atmospheric pressure, resulting in development of several surface modification technologies for the solid state;
  • technology and design of equipment for oriented growing of carbon nanotubes;
  • several plasma-chemical processes for thin dielectric films deposition under low temperatures;
  • technologies for producing ceramic surfaces with adjustable specific surface and porosity;
  • technologies for chemical deposition of layers of diverse substances on the irregular shape articles.

Possibilities for commercial use:

  • precision surface diagnostics, investigation of solid state structure and composition and surface structures on micro and nanolevels;
  • adjustment of technologies for coating processes, surface etching and modification processes;
  • clearing-up the reasons of corrosion in materials and objects in different media.
